GATE Preparation Resources

How to start Gate Preparation?
I think it is the most important topic to discuss as when I am preparing for GATE, I faced many problems while collecting resources and starting preparation. It is always helpful to read last year toppers interview and their strategies.

Resources
Download your latest syllabus pdf from GATE official website and find out what are the changes present in syllabus as compared to last two years syllabus.
  • Download/purchase book for each section(i.e. subject) present in syllabus. Click here this interview is given by 2015 GATE CS topper and he mentioned, what are the books and chapter needed to study. But it is always advisable go through the last year toppers interview and if they shared what are the resources they have used, follow that.
  • Ankur Gupta (secured rank 54 in GATE) shared his gate preparation notes on link, these notes are hand written and helpful while revising what are the topics left.
  • GateOverflow stay connected to this website as most of the GATE related questions with answer already present on this. Download book for aptitude preparation and book for subject related preparation.
  • Join Group on facebook related to GATE preparation.
  • Last but not least, download last 5 year papers and deduce the pattern before starting your preparation.

Books
Some of the books can be downloaded through above links. Let me know, if any of the link not working.

Coaching
While preparing for GATE, I realize that if you are working person then it is good to join online coaching otherwise it is up to you. If you are working person then it is very difficult to cover syllabus as well revise that. It is good to opt for online coaching like Ravindrababu Ravula, GateForum etc. Although, I haven’t purchased any of these but I advise you to opt for Ravindrababu Ravula (If you do not want to follow blindly my suggestion then go-through all the available videos and decide by yourself). I have done mistake at my time, I don’t want you to repeat that. Join any online coaching to save your time and please, don’t completely rely on that. You have to read course books too to get good rank, online coaching only helps you to save time before reading topic from course book first go through those video lectures, it will help you in understanding topic well and in lesser time.

Test Series
First of all as soon as you decide to give GATE, enroll in any online test series(MadeEasy online test series preferable). It is always good to judge your preparation and compete with others. Always work on your weakness before moving forward, never take your weakness lightly at the end you are the only sufferer. Many students, just do their preparation never think about giving test but these tests are really helpful in making your concept strong. Never think to give paper only after complete preparation or revision, believe me this will not going to be very helpful. Moreover, results of these tests may break you and you have no time to work on your weak points. So, be regular and give test after completion of every topic.

IIITD MTech Interview

Once your application shortlisted by IIITD, then there are 3 or 4 further rounds for selecting a right candidate. Students have to compete in CodeChef before coming for an interview. Hence it is good to start taking participation in CodeChef Long Challenges now-onwards. You have to take all your correct submissions at the time of interview as there is a separate interview round for this. CodeChef submission interview round is taken by senior MTech students, and this round is just to know about your approach to solve problems(keep in mind interviewer already taken participation in that contest. Hence they knows problem approach don't try to fool them). Rounds 1. Aptitude Round is the first elimination round; there is no threshold that if you secure X marks out of Y marks, you qualified this round. It is an elimination round you have to be in top 200 out of 240(according to stats of 2017) if you are CSE student and top 140 out of 180 if ECE. 2. CodeChef Submis...
